COURSE · ENROLMENTS NOW OPEN
The Product Leadership Leap
You’re already good at your job. So why aren’t they choosing you?
A career development course for experienced Senior Product Managers and Principal Product Managers (or an equivalent role) ready to make the leap into people leadership, such as Group Product Manager, Head of Product or Product Director.
Do you want to make the leap into people leadership, and keep getting overlooked?
Perhaps you applied for a role, and your colleague got it (and now they’re your boss ouch!).
Or someone external “with more experience” was hired in over the top of you leaving you to wonder how you’ll ever get the experience if you’re never given the chance.
Enrolments close 26 October 2026 for the November Cohorts.
THE PROBLEM
Sound familiar?
Often the reasons shared with you are vague or something you have very little control over. When you ask how you can get people leadership experience in your current role, the response leaves you feeling like you have a better chance at winning the lottery!
This happened to me earlier in my career, and I found it incredibly frustrating. Talking to SPMs recently, this frustration is still very real today.
I’ve researched the market and found traditional Australian courses that focus purely on the functional mechanics of being a leader once you arrive, like managing team resources, headcount, and complex product strategies. Which are all great, if you’re already in the role and have a chance to practice them.
But I couldn’t find a program that focuses entirely on the missing puzzle piece: the internal politics, senior stakeholder visibility, how you’re perceived, and personal mindset shifts required for the people making hiring decisions to consider you for the role in the first place. That’s why I designed this course for you.
I teach you what I learned through years of trial and error, alongside what I’ve learned researching subconscious bias and the unwritten rules that I only discovered after making that leap myself.
While I have the utmost respect for Silicon Valley greats – and use their frameworks for the product craft daily – landing a leadership role requires a different playbook. You don't need to be better at product; you are already great at it. You need someone to give you the chance to lead, and standard product courses simply don't teach you how to get that chance.
Australian Made
The Product Leadership Leap is explicitly built for Senior Product Managers and Principal Product Managers who work within the unique dynamics of the Australian tech landscape.
Curriculum Focus
The curriculum focuses specifically on career progression inside product organisations operating in Australia: how to build visibility, influence senior stakeholders, attract sponsorship and demonstrate leadership readiness before they have the next title.
The question we’re really answering is: How do I become perceived as someone the organisation should promote into Product leadership?
THE CURRICULUM • LEARNING OBJECTIVES
In this course, you will learn:
01
How I made the leap from SPM into people leader, and eventually into CPO. One strategy in particular helped me get approached for leadership roles.
How to get to the heart of what could be holding you back from getting to the next level. Unpack vague feedback and learn how to seek structured feedback against common leadership competencies.
02
03
The unspoken things that can hold you back from leadership, and what you can do about them. Explore how perceptions, unconscious bias and unwritten workplace rules can influence who gets considered for leadership opportunities.
How to take control of your career with techniques and strategies to help you get the visibility and build sponsorship needed for the next level. Learn practical ways to make your impact visible, build influence and sponsorship with decision-makers, and develop a plan to start demonstrating leadership potential before the next opportunity arises.
04
What people who've made the leap, and those involved in leadership selection, wish aspiring leaders knew. Hear different perspectives on what helps people get noticed, considered and selected for their first leadership role.
05
You'll leave with a clearer understanding of what might be holding you back, practical techniques to build your leadership visibility and influence, and a plan for what to do differently.
This group cohort is capped at 12 participants, so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to connect with peers, discuss challenges, and get ideas to help you advance your career.
Enrolments close 26 October 2026 for the November cohorts. Introductory price $825 (including $75 GST).
Who you’ll learn from
Hi, I’m Bec Badcock. I’ve made the leap from Senior Product Manager into people leadership, and eventually Chief Product Officer.
I was also a lead instructor at General Assembly, teaching its 10-week Product Management course, earning the #1 NPS in Australia (93.7). I’ve also created and delivered training for teams over the past 20 years, including product and technology at THE ICONIC, Woolworths Group and Marketplacer.
I’ve been mentoring and coaching product managers and product leaders since 2020. This course brings together what I learned making that leap myself and helping others work towards it.
ENROLMENTS ARE OPEN NOW

HOW WILL THE COURSE WORK
I’ve heard time and time again, people don’t want courses that go over weeks. So this one will be 2x 2.5 hour sessions, a week apart. This is intentional because it gives you time to think about the learnings, gather intel, and come back to ask questions.
It’s concentrated, fast-paced and will require some work between sessions. We give you the tools and teach you how to use them.

QUESTIONS
Before you decide
-
I completely get it. You have a limited training budget and you want to make sure it’s spent wisely. Book a free 30 minute Discovery Call to find out more information or ask any questions to find out if it’s the right fit for you.
-
Be sure to ask in person and send the email too. It makes it much easier for your manager to forward your request to whoever owns the training budget.
In the spirit of making things easy, here’s an email template you can send to your manager.

Hi [Manager Name],
I am looking at a targeted professional development opportunity coming up in November called The Product Leadership Leap, designed specifically for Senior PMs wanting to progress into people leadership as the next step in their career. This is the direction I want my career to head in.
Unlike standard courses that focus purely on general product strategy frameworks, this program focuses directly on getting promotion ready.
It targets the skills needed to increase visibility and communicate like a leader so I can successfully transition into people leadership when an opportunity becomes available.Format & Commitment:
Duration: 2x 2.5-hour concentrated virtual live sessions (spaced one week apart to minimise disruption to my core product delivery).
Cohort Style: Capped at 12 senior peers for high-quality knowledge sharing. Min cohort is 4 people to go ahead.
The course fee is AU$825 (including $75 GST).
Given the direct relevance to my career path here, I’d love to secure a spot using my training budget.
There is an optional add-on for a psychometric profile assessment (SHL OPQ32r), a report, and private debrief for an additional AU$715 (including $65 GST), which would give us structured insight into how my workplace preferences align with common leadership competencies to discuss in our 1:1s.
If I choose to complete both the course and Leadership Assessment, the total investment is AU$1,540 (including $140 GST).
Would you be supportive of the business funding this training? I’d love to enrol before the cohort caps out or enrolment closes on 26 October 2026.

You'll save $550 on the standard course price and have the opportunity to start putting what you've learned into practice before the next leadership opportunity comes along.
With a maximum of 12 participants, you'll also have plenty of opportunities to discuss your own challenges, learn from your peers and ask questions.

It would if your instructor was inexperienced. I was a lead instructor at General Assembly, a global tech education provider, where I taught the 10 week product management foundations twice a week to students all over the world. I’ve created and taught training courses like “Feedback Tips and Tricks” and “Languages of Appreciation at Work” at THE ICONIC, while running sessions like “How to run a remote Design Sprint” for the Product Practice for Woolworths Group, as well as targeted training sessions for the product and technology teams at Marketplacer. I’ve also been mentoring and coaching up-and-coming product managers and product leaders since 2020.
I’m confident this course will provide value to you. So much so, if you are not satisfied that the Core Program met the learning objectives, I’ll give you your money back.
To be eligible, you must attend both sessions, complete the required activities and submit your request within five days of the final session. Full eligibility criteria are in the Course T&Cs.

Yes, with the exception of the United States and Canada.
There’s one caveat: while many of the lessons are relevant across borders, the course is designed around Australian workplace dynamics. Approaches that work well here may not be as effective in other cultures.
In America, for example, self-promotion can be perceived favourably. In Australia, it can run up against our infamous “tall-poppy syndrome”, where people perceived as getting too big for their boots are quickly cut down. Building visibility here often means promoting your team’s work without looking like you’re constantly promoting yourself. It’s a fine line.
There has been a lot of international interest, so I want to be clear: the founding cohort will focus on the Australian context, rather than adapting these approaches to different workplace cultures. That may come later!
I’d prefer to be upfront with you so you can decide whether the course is a good fit for your workplace.

Who is this course for?
Senior Product Managers and Principal Product Managers (or in an equivalent role) who want to make the leap into people management, but aren’t sure how. It’s better suited to those who are already employed as the techniques and strategies are designed to be applied in a workplace setting.
If you are currently between jobs, the lessons are still relevant, but you’ll need to have access to someone who has managed you previously for some of the exercises completed for the course. If you’re looking for assistance to land your next gig, I recommend Robyn Mitchell at Job Search Essentials. Or joining the Product Bubble community.
Who is this course not for?
GPMs, Heads of, VPs, Product Directors who are already in a people leadership role. The skills you need to master at this point are completely different and there are already plenty of courses on the market that cover these skills.
Money-Back Guarantee

OPTIONAL ADD ON · LEADERSHIP ASSESSMENT
Find out how you compare to other managers and professionals on common competencies hiring managers look for when selecting people leaders.
-
We’re all unique people, with different strengths and, let's be honest, areas we could improve. It’s all part of our professional growth. The problem is, we very rarely get the opportunity to see how we compare to others. And sometimes, it’s hard to know.
But what happens when one of those weaker areas happens to be something you need to get better at in order to be an effective leader?
And what happens when you’re not aware of what that area is?
This gives you a clearer view of your strengths, as well as the areas you might need to work on to become an effective leader. From there, you can decide: is this something I want to change?
Because behavioural shifts take time and practice, it’s better to get started now.
-
The SHL Occupational Personality Questionnaire (OPQ32r) measures your preferred behavioural style at work across 32 specific personality characteristics, looking at relationships with people, thinking style, and feelings and emotions. It’s backed by more than 90 independent validation studies over 25 years, across 20 countries and 40 industries – evidence that the OPQ32 is a powerful predictor of workplace performance.
After completing it, you don’t just receive generic personality report like with many personality tests on the internet. We’ll map your profile directly against common competencies companies assess when selecting people leaders.
This gives you a clearer view of your likely strengths, as well as the areas you might need to work on to become an effective leader. From there, you can decide – is this something I want to change?
Because behavioural shifts take time and practice, it’s better to get started now.
This tool is strictly restricted to accredited practitioners, so you can’t just buy it yourself online. In a past life (we all have them in Product!), I ran the psychometrics division at an HR consultancy, where the OPQ32 was commonly used when recruiting managers and executive leaders.
Getting some practice now can be useful too. Should you be asked to complete one in a future selection process, you’ll have reflected on your behavioural tendencies and strategies, rather than caught thinking on the spot when they start to probe.
-
Complete the SHL OPQ32r online. Takes around 25 mins.
Have a 1:1 debrief with an accredited practitioner who’ll guide you through your results and compare them to competencies commonly assessed when selecting leaders.
Get a report to keep, refer back to and use as part of your professional development.
Please note: This image is for illustrative purposes. The full OPQ32 Universal Competency Report is ~9 pages with more details for each competency. Download a sample report here.
WHAT YOU’LL GET
The SHL OPQ32r Assessment to map your core working preferences.
The Universal Competency Report showing how your working style may support or challenge you across 20 key workplace competencies.
A private 1:1 debrief session with an accredited practitioner to unpack and interpret your results against common leadership competencies.
Leadership Assessment | Optional Add-On
Understand your leadership strengths, development opportunities and how your workplace behavioural preferences compare with other managers and professionals.
The Leadership Assessment uses the SHL Occupational Personality Questionnaire (OPQ32r), a well-established psychometric assessment that explores your preferred ways of working across 32 dimensions, including how you interact with others, approach problems and respond to workplace pressures.
Your results are mapped against leadership competencies commonly considered when selecting people leaders, helping you identify where your natural preferences may support your leadership ambitions and where you might benefit from further development.
What's included:
Access to the SHL OPQ32r psychometric assessment.
A personalised report exploring your workplace behavioural preferences and leadership competency potential.
A one-on-one debrief to help you interpret your results, understand your strengths and identify development opportunities.
Practical insights you can use to inform your professional development and career progression.
The assessment provides insight into your behavioural preferences and potential strengths, rather than measuring your actual performance or determining your readiness for promotion.
Price: AU$715 (including GST)
This is an optional add-on to The Product Leadership Leap Core Program and is not included in the $825 course fee.
